Soda fired bowl

Here's one of my fish design bowls from this latest firing.
We decided to make yesterday a play day. Our first stop was the Farmers market in town where I got some home made Cherry jam, pickled 3 bean salad, and a banana nut bread which we'll have with boiled eggs this morning. After that we drove up to Roan Mt to see the rhododendrons. It's a good thing we did because they're starting on the down side of their peak blooming; but still going strong enough to see a lot of color. We forgot to bring jackets and the heavy fog made it too uncomfortable to walk around too long, and the crowds were huge, so we decided to cut our visit short with the intent of going back in another day or two.
As we were driving down the mountain, we decided to drive to Spruce Pine and try the 50's style drive in for lunch. Jim had seen their sign for Philly cheese steaks and wanted to give it a try. The food wasn't great, or bad; but it was fun sitting in the car and eating while the 50's and 60's music was piped in.
Needless to say, I didn't get in any garden time in the heat of the afternoon, but I will this morning. It's going to be a bit cooler today than yesterday so I should be able to get a couple of hours in this morning. We had a strong storm come through again yesterday so I've got to put down more blood meal to keep the bunnies away.
We're planning a lazy Sunday afternoon reading the Sunday papers, and later I'm going to get the barbecue going for the nice steaks I'm making for Jim's Father's day dinner.

  1. Hi June.

    Me Chris here again.

Good morning! And how are you? Me, I am doing very well!

I very much do want to wish your husband Jim a very heartfelt happy father's day. I know he is a great dad!

Also, I want to wish your son Sean a very heartfelt happy father's day as well. And from what I heard, I bet my sweet potatoes that he is a great dad too!

Me, I am going to go to Water Falls, an Italian restaurant in Staten Island, NY where I am staying for the weekend, in honor of my buddy, who also happens to be my dear Aunt Lorie's boyfriend, Tommy's dad who passed on 5 years ago sadly. They have great food. And I love their mozzarella and corazza as well as their shirley temples plus their pina coladas.

Oh, and by the way, congratulations on your new kitty Bonnie Lass. She must be really quite a cutie! LOL.

Well you, Jim, Erin, Sean, and everybody else take care!

I'll be back in a few weeks to see how you are plus let you know how we are as well.

    Take it easy.

    All my best,
    Chris

  2. My Father was so surprised to see me he cried for a few minutes and we had dinner at the Chart House by the water front in philly. i'll post the pictures later in the week.

Tell jim happy father's day. and if you want a real philly cheese steak you both should come to philadelphia and go to Geno's Steaks or Tony Luke's. LOL

  3. Jim went to school in Philadelphia (University of Pa), so he's been privileged to have the real thing. I'll have to google a recipe for the real thing and make it for him some time.
